Targeted killing: Two policemen shot dead in DI Khan ambush

At least two policemen were gunned down near a checkpoint in Dera Ismail Khan on Wednesday.


Constable Faisal and Sepoy Imran were going on their duty when unidentified assailants attacked them near New Bannu Chungi. Imran died on the spot, while Faisal succumbed to his injuries during treatment at hospital.


A police official told The Express Tribune that the deceased had been deployed at horse and cattle show being held as part of the annual spring carnival in DI Khan.


According to the official, the victims were on their way to the venue when attackers ambushed them with automatic weapon, killing Imran and leaving Faisal critically injured. The wounded constable was rushed to District Headquarters and Teaching Hospital DI Khan where he succumbed to his injuries.


The assailants managed to escape after committing the crime. An official at the DPO office said an FIR has not been filed so far. He said it was too early to comment on the case.
