Talking to The Express Tribune at the launch, Waqar said, “We were initially doing only bridals but since we have launched luxury pret there’s a lot of diversity, so we needed a space to display all that.” With the store, she launched Reine, a luxury pret line that she created with her daughter, Mahnam. The store houses shirts with digital prints and embellishments, formal shirts with intricate detailing, some accessories and of course, Waqar’s signature bridals.
Models donning elaborate, opulent bridals casually schmoozed at the store launch. There was also a short presentation where the models walked out one by one and showed off their detail-centric ensembles with encrusted stone work.
Designers walk out of ‘Runway Pakistan’ without showcasing collections
In the industry for almost 25 years, Waqar has not had an exhibition in Karachi or Islamabad even though she’s had fashion outings at Bridal Asia in India, Amsterdam Fashion Week, Pakistan Fashion Week in London and has even exhibited in Rome. When asked if she tones down embellishments for international audiences, she unabashedly said, “No, my embellishments are always very royal.”
While her loud and bling-centric sense of fashion may not be everyone’s cup of tea, there are many who admire Waqar’s rather over-the-top designs.
