After legendary West Indian batsman Sir Vivian Richards expressed interest in coaching the Pakistan team, the cricket board has been reportedly negotiating a deal with him to mentor the players for the upcoming Asia Cup and World T20 in Bangladesh and India respectively.
“The board is very impressed with the way Richards has worked as mentor with the Quetta Gladiators team in the HBL Pakistan Super League and also want him to mentor the Pakistan squad in the Asia Cup and World T20,” said a source in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as quoted by the Press Trust of India.

But bringing the West Indies’ great on board will not be an easy task as he has media commitments in the World T20.
“They are trying to find a solution because the PCB wants Richards to mentor the Pakistan team but he has not agreed to anything as yet,” the source added.

Richards had earlier said that he won’t say no to an offer if the PCB approached him. “I won’t decline any [PCB coaching] offer. At present you have Waqar [Younis] who is a legend and has done a magnificent job with the team,” he had said. “I would definitely give coaching a shot, if given an opportunity, because I feel I have a lot to offer.”
The middle-order batsman, who made 121 appearances in Test cricket, also expressed his sadness at Pakistan’s inability to host international cricket due to security concerns.

“We [the West Indies team] were always ready to tour Pakistan,” said Richards. “The country has given some magnificent cricketers to the world and it’s sad to see what has happened to the country with the lack of international cricket. I hope it improves.”
