PESHAWAR: An eight-month-old child died after being bitten by a rat in the Hassan Garhi area of Peshawar on Thursday.

Mohammad Huzaifa, the only son of Khairuz Zaman, was asleep in his house when a rat bit him on the nose. He died after a few moments.

“It was late night when the rat attacked the child and bit on his nose and face. He was dead before we could take him to the hospital," Malik Jahangir, one of Zaman's neighbour of Zaman told The Express Tribune.

He said the city areas of Hasan Garhi, Shami Road and Faqirabad were infested by rats after the 2010 floods, and over five children have died in similar incidents since.
