Saying “hello” in Pashto and Sindhi just got a little easier with the addition of these and 10 other languages to Google Translate.

"With over 26 million Sindhi speakers, and over 43 million Pashto speakers around the world, speakers of these languages will now be able to type or handwrite a phrase on their phone or computer and it will be instantly translated into English, or vice versa," Google announced on Thursday.

The new languages introduced also include Amharic, Corsican, Frisian, Kyrgyz, Hawaiian, Kurdish (Kurmanji), Luxembourgish, Samoan, Scots Gaelic, Shona and Xhosa.

The recent introduction brings the number of languages available in Google Translate to more than 100.

The service which was launched in 2006 first in Russian, Arabic and Chinese languages now reaches over 50 million people all over the world.

It is said that Google Translate processes around a million words per second.

caroline stewart | 7 years ago | Reply It's a bit misleading to say it now 'speaks' Pashto because I work with someone who cannot read or write it and I am keenly awaiting the time when Pashto includes the speaker and microphone option! Carry on the excellent work!
