PIA privatization (II)

Private airlines conveniently exploited the situation to their advantage, with airfares doubling

KARACHI: The disruption in PIA’s flight operation caused passengers a lot of inconvenience. Other private airlines are conveniently exploiting the situation to their advantage, with airfares doubling. All I want to ask is, where is the regulatory authority, i.e., the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)?

Airlines are required to file their fares with the CAA at the start of every scheduling period. Normally, the CAA’s job is to just keep a record of these fares, but it can and should object to any fare that is too high or predatory. Why are the private airlines being allowed to charge exorbitantly high fares? Why has there been no action taken by the regulatory authority? Has the CAA changed its policies or has some officials failed in performing their duties or have influentials with the government prevailed upon the CAA to remain silent for their own benefit? Will the CAA speak up?
