Facilitating pensioners

Letter February 09, 2016
A procedure specified for pensioners to receive their pensions, including the disabled, is complex and cumbersome

RAWALPINDI: The federal government has facilitated pensioners by making it possible for them to receive their pensions through banks. A new system of automatic transfer of pensions to bank accounts is being introduced. This is commendable but the procedure specified for pensioners, including the disabled, is complex and cumbersome. It requires the attestation of photographs and CNICs, as well as indemnity bonds by gazetted officers.

It is high time the government started trusting those who have served it all their lives by simplifying procedures instead of forcing them to run after gazetted officers. I appeal to the government to kindly accept the existing credentials of pensioners that are maintained by the departments concerned. It must trust pensioners, introduce the new system, and let the banks enter the pensions received in pension books as has been the practice for some years. Violators of trust should be prosecuted.
