Professor Dr Iftikhar Hussain was appointed acting vice chancellor of University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar on Monday. As a result, the two-week-long teachers protest against the extension of the previous VC, Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gillani, was called off.


According to a notification issued by the K-P Higher Education department, the governor appointed Hussain as acting vice chancellor with immediate effect until further orders.

Credentials

Prior to his appointment as acting VC, Hussain was the chairman of the Department of Industrial Engineering at UET Peshawar for 10 years. He completed his PhD in 1998 from the University of Bradford in UK. He also worked as a professor in the same university, as well as in King Saud University, Saudi Arabia.

He has over 60 research publications to his credit. Hussain has also been bestowed with the award for Best Teacher by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and award for Best Research by Ford.
