PESHAWAR:

A session was conducted at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar on Monday to raise awareness among students and teachers regarding security on campus.

According to a press release issued by the varsity, SBBWU Director Administration Amanullah Khan drew attention to the initiatives taken to improve security at educational institutes. He also highlighted a series of arrangements that will be made in future to deal with untoward situations. The event was attended by a large number of students and faculty members. DSP Rural Circle Sajjad Khan was the chief guest on the occasion; the Khazana SHO was also in attendance.

Speaking on the occasion, Sajjad said the security threat to schools, colleges and universities was particularly acute and institutes should be prepared to deal with all eventualities. “Students should not be discouraged,” the statement quoted him as saying. “They must fight the enemies of education.”

Sajjad vowed to provide better security arrangements at the university and also offered security training to students.

Following the attack on Bacha Khan University, Charsadda on January 20, efforts are afoot to tighten security at educational institutes. Last week, the Special Combat Unit of the Capital City Police decided to conduct a series of mock exercises at schools to prepare students to deal with possible terrorist attacks. A mock exercise was conducted at Elizabeth School and at other government installations in the city.
