KARACHI:

Panic gripped a Defence neighbourhood on Tuesday after news spread regarding a grenade attack at the residence of a Balochistan minister.

The incident took place early on Tuesday morning at around 3:30am at the bungalow of the Balochistan irrigation minister, Nawab Changez Khan Marri, in Defence Housing Authority Phase II, within the jurisdiction of Defence police station.

"It was around 3:30am when we received a call about a grenade attack at the residence of the irrigation minister," claimed Defence SHO Yasin Gujjar. "But the good news was that the grenade did not explode."

The officer, while quoting the minister's statement, said that his family members woke up when they heard noises coming from outside the main door of the bungalow. When they opened the door, they found a grenade lying outside.

It was a Russian-made hand grenade that was thrown by the unidentified persons, said Gujjar. However, it has yet to be ascertained why he was targeted.

A case has been registered against unidentified persons on behalf of minister's servant while further investigation is under way.
