Criminal justice: Suggestions sought on reform of medico-legal process

CM said that criminal justice system could not be improved without reforming the medico-legal examination process

A committee set up under the chairmanship of the chief secretary was on Friday given two weeks to submit recommendations for reform of the medico-legal examination process practiced in the province.


The directive was issued by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif at a meeting to review various proposals for reforming the medico-legal examination process.

Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said that criminal justice system could not be improved without reforming the medico-legal examination process. He asked the committee to deliberate the possibility of setting up a separate cadre of medico-legal experts and of holding trainings and capacity building of the staff concerned. Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, CM’s Special Assistant Rana Maqbool Ahmed, the chief secretary, the inspector general of police, and secretaries of the Home and Prosecution Departments were also present.
