Cricket team withdrawal

Letter January 14, 2016
The security situation in India is not suitable for the Pakistani cricket team or any Pakistani for that matter

KARACHI: After the Australian team’s withdrawal from the ICC U-19 World Cup in Bangladesh over safety and security fears and after they also scrapped a Test tour late last year to that country due to the threat of terrorism, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should withdraw from the ICC World Twenty20 in India.

The PCB, in addition to boycotting the event, should also tell the ICC that it wants all of Pakistan’s matches shifted from India to Sri Lanka — just like, during the 2011 World Cup when foreign teams refused to come to Pakistan.

At the moment, the security situation in India is not suitable for the Pakistani cricket team or any Pakistani for that matter, due to the fact that the recent Pathankot attacks have further heightened tensions. It is best to steer clear of the country and convince cricket boards to either postpone the World Twenty20 or to shift it out of India.
