One dead, 30 injured as factory roof collapses in Gujranwala

Rescue 1122 says 21 injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital

At least one person died while another 30 were injured on Wednesday after the roof of a factory collapsed on Sheikhupura road in Gujranwala, Express News reported.

According to initial reports, the roof of the factory collapsed following a boiler explosion which triggered cylinder blasts.

Rescue teams arrived at scene, evacuated the injured with the help of locals and shifted them to nearby medical facilities. “Our workers have shifted at least 21 people to Civil Hospital for emergency medical treatment,” Rescue 1122 in-charge Muhammad Umar said.

According to eyewitnesses, as many as four blasts were heard in the factory which employs around 200 workers. Rescuers are still searching for those trapped under the debris.

Meanwhile, DC Gujranwala has declared medical emergency in hospitals across the city.

One must not say anything unless it has merit and weight. Mayor did the best and I recommend he be given Appreciation letter by Chief Minister for taking so prompt and right action at the right time.
