MULTAN:

Members of the Pakistan Peoples Party held three cake-cutting ceremonies in Multan to mark the 84th birthday of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, founding chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), on Tuesday.

A cake was cut at the residence of PPP city general secretary Muhammad Saleem Raja. Scores of PPP workers participated in the ceremony. PPP’s city president Usman Bhatti, Khawaja Rizwan Alam, Malik Altaf Khokhar, Dr Javed Saddique and Qaiser Abbas Sadiq attended the event and paid tributes to Bhutto.

Another ceremony was held at the Multan district bar office where the Peoples Lawyers’ Forum South Punjab coordinator cut a cake. Scores of lawyers including Zawar Qureshi, Aziz Akbar Baig, Habibullah Shakir and others joined the ceremony.

Journalists at the Multan Press Club also held an event in which South Punjab PLF president Habibullah Shakir and PPP South Punjab general secretary Shaukat Basra cut a cake. They were flanked by several workers and journalists. The participants prayed for the prosperity of Pakistan. They delivered speeches valorising Bhutto and said they would work and continue their struggle to keep Bhutto’s memory alive.  They said the PPP was formed as a force against feudalism and capitalism and gave a voice to the downtrodden
