KARACHI: Zuhair Khaliq will be the new chief executive officer of Warid Telecom, an official in the Abu Dhabi Group told The Express Tribune. Khaliq had earlier been confirmed as a member for the board of directors at Wateen.

Khaliq’s appointment followed resignations from Bashir A Tahir and Pervez Shahid from their respective positions in the Abu Dhabi Group, which owns both Warid Telecom and Wateen. “Resignations of this magnitude usually mean that the company will undergo plenty of changes in the senior management,” said senior telecom analyst Aamir Atta.

A spokesperson for Warid said that no official confirmation of the appointment has been received yet, while his counterpart at Wateen was unavailable for comment.
