Vivo Y74s Review

Vivo Y74s, a high-priced smartphone with not so high specs
Vivo Y74s Review

The upcoming phone from Vivo is expected to launch in Pakistan market soon. The new addition to Y-series is already being launched in Chinese markets. This forthcoming phone will be included in the upper mid-range segment of smartphones. This anticipated phone is known as Vivo Y74s.

Color & Price:

This phone is expected to be priced at Rs 64,999 in Pakistani market, which is equivalent to around $484. The upcoming phone from Y-series will come in two colors; Black and a unique Aurora color. The Aurora color has a color-changing gradient, which changes colors from blue to sea-green to turquoise.

Vivo Y74s Review

The phone comes in the same old design with similar camera-setup; literally nothing has been changed. There is dual-camera setup at back. The front of the phone is not protected by any protection and comes with a front camera inside a pretty old style raindrop bezel along with a big chin at the bottom.

Camera:

The rear end of the phone holds a dual camera setup, including the main camera of 50MP, 26mm wide angle sensor having added feature of taking pictures using PDAF technology. The second camera is a 2MP macro sensor that is paired up with an LED flash. The camera features include slow-motion video recording, geo-tagging, phase detection, panorama, and HDR. The rear main camera is capable of recording a 1080p video at 30fps.

Honestly speaking, Vivo has not thought this through. It has given a big 50MP sensor with a low-level 2MP camera. The big back camera can’t even record 4K videos even when it has a 50MP sensor. It’s just unbelievable coming from Vivo, who has released some of the best phones this past year. The front side of the phone comes with a single camera incorporated inside a water-drop bezel. This camera has an 8MP wide angle sensor and can record 1080p videos at 30fps.

RAM & Storage:

The phone comes in a single memory variant having 8GB RAM and internal storage of 256GB. An added feature of expandable memory is a good option which can use microSD card of up to 256GB. There is an added feature of virtually expandable RAM of up to 4GB. This helps the phone to perform well using the complete 12GB of RAM. The gaming experience is god and there was hardly any lag or jitter.

Display:

Talking about the front display, there is an IPS LCD display. Yes, a mediocre LCD screen present in a smartphone released in price range of upper-mid smartphones. The screen size is 6.58 inches with resolutions set at 1080 x 2400 pixels that yield a density of 401 pixels per inch.

Vivo has given 180Hz touch sampling rate, but this cannot hide the fact that the screen has a very low level refresh rate of just 60Hz. Due to the large raindrop bezel, containing the front camera, and the chin at the bottom, the overall screen-to-body ratio is an unimpressive 84.9%.

Battery:

The Vivo Y74s contains a mediocre 4100 mAh, Li-Po non-removable battery that comes with a 44 watt fast charging support. Vivo has claimed that this technology can charge phone from 0% to 70% in about 34 minutes.

Processor/Chipset:

The phone runs on a chipset powered by Dimensity. Usually phones in this range have good processors like Snapdragon 778 and Dimensity 1100, but Vivo has decided to include a very low-end Dimensity 810 chipset. I mean, come on Vivo! This chipset runs alongside an octa-core processor that has two 2.42GHz cores and six 2.0GHz cores.

Now, although this chipset is not bad, it is just not worth the amount that the user will be paying for this phone. Vivo Y74S has Mali-G57 MC2 running as the GPU. The smartphone uses Android version 11 for its operating system, but using OriginOS 1.0 means that users are still getting the old UI, which had some issues and was not up to the mark.

Extra Features:

This phone will include Dual Standby Nano-SIM. Vivo Y74s comes with a 5G SA/NSA Technology, which also supports 2G, 3G and 4G band. The dimensions of this phone is 163.8mm x 75mm x 7.8mm and this phone weighs at around 175 grams. The back and the frame of this phone are made of plastic, while the front is made of glass.

There are multiple sensors that are integrated into this phone. Some of them are; accelerometer, compass, gyro, and proximity sensors. Vivo Y74s comes with a 3.5 mm audio jack. There is no support for NFC, VC liquid cooling, and stereo speaker.

Pros & Cons

Now, this phone will cost around Rs 64,999 but, there are many features that this phone lacks. Vivo relies on their camera technology, but this time there is only a dual camera setup which is certainly not enough. The design is the same old with minimal change. And the overall quality is very low-class.

The charging system of this phone is amazing but there should be a 5000 mAh battery included. The good thing about this phone is that it is a 5G-enabled phone, but since Pakistan still lacks behind in 5G technology, this feature is of no use. The MediaTek processor, Dimensity 810 is also a fall for this phone.

Considering all the above facts and features, this is one phone that people should stay away from and even if it is released in Pakistan, this phone does not have any functionality that would justify its high price and hence we would definitely not recommend this phone. However, if Vivo decides to launch it’s Y74s in a lower price range of around Rs 30,000/= to Rs 40,000/= it will be whole another conversation, but for now, it’s a no-go.
