Since WhatsApp, Telegram, and Facebook Messenger have become more popular, SMS is barely ever used for texting anymore. Nowadays, everyone has access to mobile internet, therefore there is no reason to purchase an SMS plan.
Nevertheless, telemarketers, telecoms, clothing brands, ISPs, arbitrary pest control companies, and the list goes on, continue to bombard people with SMS spam on the phones. Nobody enjoys receiving unwanted texts, and it can take a lot of effort to block each and every number from which one receives the marketing texts.
Fortunately, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has at last given out some positive news.
Telemarketers will only be permitted to send promotional SMS texts to people who opt-in thanks to recently adopted PTA laws. Additionally, every promotional message will include a link to stop receiving SMS advertisements once the person decides to opt-out.
PTA also makes it clear that sending SMS without permission is against the rules and is therefore a crime that needs to be reported. You can also file a complaint against telemarketers who keep texting you without your permission.
