Xiaomi Corporation has announced that the charity institute of Xiaomi by the name of Xiaomi Foundation Limited, will help World Vision Philippines and Yayasan Food Bank Malaysia by donating a big amount of Rs. 17,720,000, respectively. The cause of this donation is to help the people of Malaysia and Philippines that were affected by Typhoon Rai.
According to the reports provided by Philippine Disaster Council, it is estimated that around 870,334 families were affected by this disaster. Volunteers numbered in thousands, are working already to help the survivors and affected people and are providing the basic necessities like water, food, shelter, emergency kits and more.
"As a global company, we feel it is our obligation to be responsible, and to give back to communities hit by crises like these," Xiaomi said in a news release.
Typhoon Rai, also known in the Philippines as Typhoon Odette, was a severe and destructive tropical storm that devastated the nation. It developed into the first Category 5-equivalent super typhoon in December, but it dissipated on the 22nd.
Xiaomi Corporation was established in April 2010 and went public on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange's Main Board on 9th July, 2018. It is a consumer electronics and smart manufacturing startup with an IoT platform at its core that connects smartphones and smart devices.
