Through the Finance Bill, 2022, a new fee of up to Rs 16,000 has been proposed on the import of mobile phone devices. According to the Finance Bill, a mobile handset fee will be imposed at various rates on smartphones of various price ranges.
A fee of Rs. 100 per set on a mobile phone with a cost and freight (C&F) value of up to $30 will be imposed under the plan. On mobile phones with a C&F value of $30 to $100, the levy rate per set will be $200. On mobile phones with a C&F worth between $101 and $200, the levy rate per set will be 600.
Similarly, the levy rate per set for mobile phones with a C&F value of $201 to $350 will be 1800. Mobile phones with a C&F value between $351 and $500 will be subject to a charge of $4000 per set. On mobile phones with a C&F worth between $501 and $700, the levy rate per set will be 8000. The levy rate on mobile phones with a C&F value of more than $701 will be $16,000 per set.

The government estimates that the tariff on mobile handset imports will bring in Rs. 10 billion in revenue. Indeed, that’s an increase in the yearly revenue and also an increase in the user’s expenses.
