Umar Gul addresses speculations surrounding coaching role with Pakistan team

Former Pakistan fast bowler, Umar Gul, has expressed his enthusiasm at the prospect of becoming the bowling coach for the Pakistan Cricket Team as the three-match Test series against Australia is around the corner. 

While speaking during a local event, Gul responded to speculations that he could replace Morne Morkel in this crucial role and clarified that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has not approached him yet.

“Pakistan Cricket Board hasn't contacted me yet for the bowling coach role, it will be an honour for me if I am appointed as the bowling coach of the Pakistan team,” Umar Gul said.

Previously, former South African pacer, Morne Morkel, resigned from the post of the bowling coach of the national team. Morkel joined the Pakistan team on a six-month contract in June this year and his first assignment with the men’s team was their tour to Sri Lanka for the two-match Test series.

The cricket board will announce his replacement in due course. Pakistan's next assignment is a three-match Test series against Australia scheduled to take place from December 14, 2023, to January 7, 2024, in Australia.

• 3rd Test – Australia vs Pakistan – January 3-7: Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG)
