We need to rotate and take care of our pacers: Umar Gul

Pakistan bowling coach, Umar Gul, has emphasized the importance of a 'rotation policy' for fast bowlers ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023, scheduled to take place in India in October-November. 

With Pakistan having a good pool of pacers, Gul believes that it is necessary to keep them fresh for the mega event.

We are lucky to have good fast bowlers who can bowl at 140+. We need to take care of them and adopt a rotation policy to keep them fit for the World Cup in India," he said. 

He expressed his confidence in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the selection committee to consider this aspect seriously. 

"I am sure PCB and the selection committee are considering this as it is too important at the moment," Gul said. 

The 40-year-old also referred to the knee injury that Shaheen Shah Afridi suffered last year and stressed the need to take care of the fast bowlers' fitness.

The former pacer also expressed his gratitude for getting the opportunity to work with the national team once again as the interim bowling coach. 

I am overwhelmed that PCB trusted me once again and gave me an opportunity to work with the national team," he said. 

"I used to enjoy playing for Pakistan and now I am looking forward to enjoy this new role," he added. 

Gul mentioned that he is focused on grooming young and talented fast bowlers and is spending time with them to teach them how to tackle new batters and bowl according to the field.

We have very good and potential fast bowlers. I just try to spend time with them and tell them how to tackle a new batter at the crease. Also, I tell them to always bowl according to the field," he concluded.

During the T20I series against Afghanistan, Pakistan suffered a 2-1 loss, with Umar Gul serving as the interim bowling coach for the team. He was granted an extension in his role for the upcoming home New Zealand tour.
