Pakistan all-rounder Faheem Ashraf is eagerly anticipating the opportunity to play for the Men in Green, during the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales.

While talking in an exclusive interview with Cricket Pakistan, Ashraf said he will try not to disappoint in the mega event, if given the opportunity by the selectors.

“My focus is on the mega event and will try to put in a good show in the field, if I get selected in the squad,” said Ashraf.

The 25-year-old also spoke about the recently concluded tour of South Africa and the things he learned from that tough trip away from home.

“It was a difficult tour but I learned a lot from it,” he said. “In times like these you get to know about people who are your well-wishers and those who stick by your side only during your good times.”

Ashraf — who has featured in four Tests, 18 ODIs and 25 T20Is for Pakistan — also spoke about how he likes to respond to his critics.

“I will give my best in every format of the game,” he said.  “People always like to talk behind your back but I always try to respond to my critics by performing on the field.”

Ashraf also named his ideal player in world cricket by stating: “Ben Stokes is my ideal in cricket, but only on the field because I don’t follow his daily life routine.”

Ashraf, who is playing for defending champions Islamabad United during the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season four, also shared the recipe behind the success of the two-time champions.

“Our team management is really supportive which keeps a good atmosphere in the dressing room and this consequently helps us succeed,” he said. “I’m excited about playing in Pakistan once again. Hopefully we will qualify for the final once again and win the trophy.”

Ashraf also credited former Pakistan all-rounder and current bowling coach of national side, for making him a better cricketer.

“Azhar Mahmood has impacted my game in a positive way, both, with batting and bowling” he said. “His hardwork has been beneficial for me.”
