MQM’s sector and unit in-charges were among those apprehended allegedly by the paramilitary force. Meanwhile, the Rangers claimed to have killed four more suspected militants and arrested 10 more in separate raids. Most activists were arrested from MQM’s Korangi sector office on Wednesday evening when the Rangers allegedly cordoned off the area. Over a dozen activists were apprehended and moved to an undisclosed location. Korangi sector in-charge Waseem alias Shama, unit in-charge Rafiq Shaikh, unit in-charge Waseem, member Asghar Yaqoob, joint unit in-charge Nadeem Akhtar and five unit committee members, Ibrahim, Asif Akhtar, Shahbaz, Faisal and Bobby, were arrested.
The next raid was carried out at MQM’s office in Hijrat Colony where nearly eight party workers were arrested. The paramilitary force apparently moved towards the Shah Faisal sector office but did not arrest any activist.
Separately, six more MQM workers, including Federal B Area’s unit 144 joint unit in-charge Faisal Khan, were apprehended during raids in Federal B Area, North Nazimabad, Shah Faisal Colony and Korangi.
The paramilitary force has, however, yet to issue a statement confirming these raids and arrests. The spokesperson was unavailable for comments.
