LUMS dramafest opens to overwhelming turnout

Dramaline member Ayesha Jawad said 20 performances would be staged over the festival

LAHORE:

Scores of theatre aficionados gathered at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) on Friday on the first day of LUMS Dramafest 2015.

An eclectic array of performances encompassing a variety of genres including comedy and drama were staged by LUMS, Kinnaird College (KC), Beaconhouse Defence, Headstart, Institute of Business Administration (IBA) and Lahore School of Economics (LSE) students over the day.



KC’s An Orchestra of War Cries narrated the story of a clash between two religious communities and the toll it takes on community life in a small town. Aadil Lahani’s Bijli, Pyaar Aur Daddy Jan—the second performance of the day—depicted the antics of a couple and their relationship.

Dramaline member Ayesha Jawad told The Express Tribune that between 1,500 and 2,000 people were expected to attend every day of the three-day festival. She said 400 artists from 25 educational institutions across Pakistan were taking part in the event. She said 20 performances would be staged over the festival.

Jawad said Dramafest was the nation’s largest competition of its kind. She said the event had been conceived to provide youngsters with a platform to showcase their talent. Jawad said Dramaline—the LUMS Dramatics Society—had organised the festival. She said the event was open to the public.



Jawad said tickets could be obtained from LUMS. Jawad said details regarding the festival were also available on the events Facebook page.
