ISLAMABAD: A two-day workshop on responsible tourism concluded on Wednesday involving experts and policymakers on identification of opportunities and challenges for tourism development. The consultative workshop on ‘Responsible Tourism in Karakoram, Pamir and Wakhan Landscape’ was arranged by International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD). The participants of the workshop called for highlighting the scope of integrating ecotourism in northern areas of Pakistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan. The workshop aimed at providing a regional platform for policy makers, experts, planners, and practitioners to exchange ideas and perspectives towards the achievement of sustainable mountain development. The participants highlighted that the Karakoram Himalayan region possessed a particularly diverse and interesting cultural heritage that would make it an attractive tourist destination.
