Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif received a warm welcome in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday as he reached the kingdom on a two-day official visit, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Asim Bajwa said.

According to the ISPR, the army chief met Saudi Chief of General Staff A Reham Bin Saleh and discussed military relations, defence cooperation, and regional security situation.

Renewed commitment: Army chief vows to defend S Arabia

General Raheel will meet military and political leadership of Saudi Arabia during the visit, the ISPR added.

On October 30, the COAS had said any threat to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Saudi Arabia will evoke a strong response from Pakistan.

Unfortunately, Pakistan has never been able to build a self-sustaining economy that can stand on its own feet. This is the reason why the PM and COAS have to take turns to ask KSA for help.

Harsh reality - Saudis have never viewed you as equals and there is no way that Saudis would shed blood on behalf of Pakistan. With that said .. now explain why Pakistan should shed blood for the Saudi's?

Aamir | 9 years ago | Reply @Aleem: If financial help is a gauge then Saudi Arabia has offered Pakistan USD 2bn recently and free oil worth around USD 1.5-2 bn in 1990's after the nuclear tests. Instead, USA pays upto USD 2bn annually every year without demanding our Army. Should we bow in front of USA as well? Is that the criteria? Is your answer is yes, then you approve the slave psychology.

That's a typical Pakistani statement - it sounds nice and makes for a great headline. However - based on the Saudi's recent denial of Pakistan's bid to remain on the UNHRC it's apparent they don't believe it. Credibility counts ... something that Pakistan should consider.

Aleem | 9 years ago | Reply @jersey: KSA has helped out Pakistan more than most people know of. They do their part whenever Pakistan is in a crunch. The Saudis have helped us quite a bit and sometimes we are uncouth in the way we dismiss them and assume that this is just a one way street with only the Saudis benefiting and us giving. We are not enslaved to the Saudis, but we have a pretty strong bond with their leadership and military on areas of common interests.
