Indian high commissioner offers Ramzan's mother to visit India

Sources say Indian authorities are willing to issue her visa “any day, any time”

KARACHI: Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan TCA Raghavan offered on Tuesday mother of Ramzan, a stranded Pakistani child in India, to visit her son in the neighbouring country.

Sources in the Indian High Commission told The Express Tribune Raghavan met Razia begum in a hotel in Karachi, asking her to send the passport as the Indian authorities were willing to issue her the visa “any day, any time”.

“This is all we can do from our side. It is now up to Pakistan to declare him a Pakistani, and take steps to bring him back,” sources quoted Raghavan as saying.

Shagufta, an official of the Ansar Burney Trust who accompanied Ramzan’s mother, said the meeting ended on a positive note.

“Razia would now apply for a passport. The Indian high commissioner has promised she will get the visa to visit Ramzan in India.”

Ramzan, 15, is currently at a shelter home in Bhopal, India.

Born in Karachi, he was forcefully taken to Bangladesh by his father in 2008. Two years later, he crossed the Indian border in a bid to return to his mother back in Karachi only to be stranded in the foreign land.



After travelling through different states, and living on the streets, he was handed to the Childline shelter home by the authorities in Bhopal.

In August this year, Razia came to know about her missing son after her employer narrated story of a Pakistani boy living in a shelter home.
