University of Peshawar has inked an agreement with Meezan Bank to extend financial support to underprivileged students at the varsity, stated a press release issued on Wednesday.

The agreement was signed, at a ceremony held at UoP, by VC Muhammad Rasul Jan and Meezan Bank Senior Vice President Fayazur Rehman.

“The MoU would remain effective for four years,” read the press statement. “Under this scheme, interest-free loans will be provided to students on need or merit basis.”

Through this agreement, the varsity will interview students who require financial aid. The press release stated, “Students will also be offered scholarships from the bank on the basis of merit.”

Speaking at the ceremony, Jan said UoP has a large number of students who need financial aid to continue their education. “The corporate sector should join hands to educate the youth of K-P and Fata,” the handout quoted him as saying.
