ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the United Stated on Wednesday agreed to strengthen cooperation under the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) while describing health security as an important element of national security.

It was decided at a meeting held between Minister of State for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Saira Afzal Tarar with US Deputy National Security Adviser Avril Haines at the White House in Washington, said an official statement.

Avril Haines reaffirmed US commitment to further assistance and collaboration for socio-economic development in Pakistan.

Saira also met Dan Feldman, Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan in the Department of State. Pakistan ambassador to the US Jalil Abbas Jilani accompanied the state minister.

She said the number of polio cases has drastically reduced in 2015 and the government is hopeful to eradicate the crippling disease from the country.

Dan Feldman assured the minister that the US is ready to work with Pakistan in controlling other infectious diseases as well.

Khan | 8 years ago | Reply @Ammar: Transport isn't a low utility project. Especially if you're not part of Pakistan's English speaking, car driving elite. Metro bus has drastically improved transportation in lahore - and I'm not a PML supporter. All problems, including transport, need to be addressed. We can't wait for one problem to be solved before embarking on another.
Ammar | 8 years ago | Reply Yes you consider Health Security as an important element of National Security, I believe you dear Minister of State. Perhaps this is the reason why your government is financing hugely expensive low utility development projects, such as Metro Bus Services, instead of allocating and spending more funds on Health Services than the previous governments? :)
