ISLAMABAD:

The recently released Pakistani film ‘Shah’ was screened at the Jinnah Auditorium of National University of Science and Technology (Nust) on Friday.

The event was organised to raise funds for enrolled students in need of financial assistance, informed a press release.

The cast and crew of the film, including director Adnan Sarwar, appreciated the cause and showed full support to the university. Prominent sports persons and showbiz celebrities including Samiullah, Naseem Hameed, Kausar Abbas, Mansoor Ahmed, Nauman Karim, Uzair Jaswal and Sulmeen Ansari were also present.

Sarwar highlighted the importance of education. “Some events in the story line are a reflection of the struggles I have faced in my life. The sole reason for my success is that I got a good education,” he said.

The University Advancement Office informed the audience about the Endowment for Educational Development Initiative, a campaign of the scholars support programme. It encourages the community to invest in an endowment fund to generate scholarships for needy students and take the responsibility of at least one seat from every district of the country.

The university is ranked among top 500 universities of the world and top 100 universities in BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) and emerging economies.

The initiative is a nationwide campaign, in which Nust will reach out to students from multiple districts.

Around 70 per cent of the students in the university are from the middle income group and 483 students enrolled in the batch of 2014 had a combined household income level of less than Rs30,000, said the press release.
