Independence — a myth

Letter August 25, 2015
The common man hasn’t got any independence. There has just been a change of masters, nothing else.

DAHARKI: Although Pakistan obtained geographical and political independence from foreign rule in 1947, it is still trapped in a web of illiteracy, rampant corruption, inflation, poverty, joblessness, poor governance, militancy, terrorism, lawlessness and poor public services.

The country has continued to lurch from one crisis to another. It is a distressing fact that the common man is still a slave, since it is him, who is gravely affected by the miseries mentioned above; he hasn’t got any independence. There has just been a change of masters, nothing else.
