This was announced by AIOU Vice-Chancellor Dr Shahid Siddiqui on Wednesday while inaugurating the university’s Open Day, arranged to introduce academic courses, said a press release. About 50 stalls have been set up to show-case old and new academic programmes and books published by the university.
Admissions have already started and will continue till September 4.
About the competition, Siddiqui said the young researchers will be invited to hold stalls in the university’s complex to present their inventions and the winners will be awarded cash prizes. He hoped students of all national universities will participate in the competition which aims to promote research culture in the country.
The university will set up a special department to develop linkage between academia and industries for promoting such inventions.
Siddiqui said the new academic courses have been designed to meet needs of students, enabling them to take part in socio-economic development of the country. The university, he added, has planned to launch some online and face-to-face academic programmes, especially in the field of science and technology.
Promotion of applied research is main focus area, for which an incentive package has already been announced for university faculty members, the VC said. A total eight journals would be launched by the year end, he added.
Meanwhile, hundreds of students attended the Open Day event which will continue till Thursday.
The event provided an opportunity to prospective students to get information on academic programmes, meet faculty members and visit departments to know about academic facilities, laboratories and the library.
A lucky draw has also been arranged and the winner will be offered a complete fee waiver for one semester.
