Suvra was a heart patient and had been ill for some time

Indian President Pranab Mukherjee's wife, Suvra Mukherjee, passed away Tuesday morning succumbing to her illness. 

A statement from the Rashtrapati Bhawan-- the Indian presidential residence-- stated "It is informed with deep sorrow that Suvra Mukherjee passed away this morning at 10:51 am."

According to reports, Suvra was a heart patient and had been ill for some time. She was brought to the hospital on Friday evening following a respiratory problem.

Born on September 17,1940 in Bangladesh, Suvra was not only a painter but had also written two books; 'Chokher Aloey', a personal account of her interaction with Indira Gandhi and 'Chena Achenai Chin' - a travelogue recounting her visit to China.

Suvra and Pranab took their vows on July 13, 1957. Further, Suvra along with her husband, leaves behind three children - Abhijit, Indrajit and Sharmistha Mukherjee.
