Retired judge wants party leader to meet his seven demands

LAHORE: There is no dictatorship in the party but a mafia has taken over its administration and isolated the rank and file from the leadership, said Justice (retired) Wajih ud Din. He was addressing a press conference in Lahore on Friday.

Having recently been suspended from the party by chairman Imran Khan for being vocal on internal matters of the party, Justice Wajih ud Din has taken to initiating a campaign. He claims this campaign to be in the process of reforming the party. He denies rumours of forming a new bloc within the party.

Seven demands have also been put forth by Justice Wajih including formation of taskforce to implement decisions by PTI Election Tribunal and the Standing Committee on Accountability and Discipline. He has also insisted on the formation of an Accountability Commission; all central and provincial office bearers should be de-notified and made ineligible for intraparty elections along with formation of interim central and provincial set-ups.

He further demands that the party’s Election Commission should be empowered and resourced to immediately hold intra-party elections. He also insisted on the formation of a national reconciliation commission and suspension of all office-bearers found guilty of corruption and misuse of authority.

He said that the party was being run like a mafia.

Demanding transparent intraparty elections in the party, he said he wanted democracy and strong institutions within the party. He also advised that it was time that middle age people be brought forward to take the lead, with senior members to guide and the youth prepared to take on the lead role through a process.

Commenting on the status of his affiliation with the party, he said while his membership had been suspended he was still a part of the party.

Justice Wajih's credentials are impeccable and a two bit minion of the establishment like Niazi who was the cheerleader of a dictator during the infamous referendum of 2002, is a dwarf in front of Wajihuddin.

rashid | 9 years ago | Reply If he says there is no dictatorship within the party, would have been nice of him to put efforts in getting the likeminded on his side and form a strong lobby of his own to overcome the so called mafia. Isn't it the way politics work ? Let aside the debate of who has more money.....I think he could have found enough support of members who want to see accountability within the party. At the end what it takes is to be an active politician, which I guess is not a thing for everyone......

If a party cannot have transparency within itself, how can it have enough moral authority to take forth this narrative? ML-N and PPP seem like hilarious scoundrels when they talk of anti-corruption. PTI shouldn't end up exactly like them.

zafar iqbal ranjha | 9 years ago | Reply The learned justice sahib,who himself is very new arrival in the party like the ones he has been criticizing non stop, was sitting in the board which awarded party tickets for general election. He was presiding a committee tasked to ascertain genuineness of the documents of the candidates especially their academic certificates etc,some of which ,later on ,proved to be fake thus causing great embarrassment for the party and its chairman. Some of his public statements are making opponents of PTI extremely happy and despite of chairman,s repeated requests,the learned justice is not confining of his criticism to the internal affairs of the party. With every passing day,he is becoming more stubborn,so it will be advisable and appropriate for him to join any other party which appears to him more democratic,more principled,less autocratic, where rich has no influence whatsoever and he can opt for PML(N). Another question can be respectfully asked to the learned justice sahib,that is, what he did while being Chief Justice of Sindh High Court and judge of Supreme Court of Pakistan to weed out corruption from the judiciary?

nizamuddin khan | 9 years ago | Reply May be in retrospect Mr Wajih ud Din is doing the right think by highlighting what may hurt PTI in the next general elections. I hope he has attempted to resolve his differences with IK or other senior members of PTI privately. The general public has to know the internal struggles of the PTI party stalwarts. A strong PTI will emerge when everyone makes an effort to clean the internal mess. It is extremely important to take the time to align all seasoned PTI members to make a big push for the next general elections...so as long as Mr Wajih does not intend to cause fissures within the party he has my support.

People within PTI should appreciate his proposition and move forward to make the party an example and envious for other political parties. This type of proposed reforms will PTI a very strong contender for all times.
