SIALKOT: The Traffic Wardens system will start functioning in the Sialkot district from January 2011. Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has approved a traffic wardens system for Sialkot following repeated demands by members of the Sialkot business community. The CM has also issued special directives to the Additional IG Traffic Punjab in this regard.

Sialkot DSP (Traffic) Mazhar Fareed told reporters that 100 traffic wardens would be deputed in the district in January 2011. Fareed said that 19 traffic inspectors and two DSPs would also be assigned on duty. “One DSP will be deployed for urban areas and the other will control traffic in the rural areas of the district,” he said.

Advanced technical machinery will be installed in the district for the use of the licensing branch. The new machinery will help issue advanced computerized traffic licences.

The DSP revealed that the district traffic authorities had fined rule violators with Rs6.7 million during the last eleven months and had cancelled over 137 driving licences. PPI
