Army chief General Raheel Sharif on Tuesday visited flood hit areas of Layyah in Dera Ghazi Khan Division to review the ongoing rescue and flood relief operation carried out by Pakistan Army.


According to the Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR), the army chief expressed his deepest regret over the loss of life and property and assured the flood victims that Pakistan army will stand by them till their complete rehabilitation.

He also directed area commanders especially Corps Commander Multan Lieutenant General Ashfaq Nadeem to remain vigilant about saving people and to minimise casualties during flood in the region under his corps. He also directed him to leave no stone unturned for the safety and rehabilitation of the flood victims.

General Raheel also visited North Waziristan Agency’s internally displaced people (IDPs) in Layyah. The IDPs especially thanked General Raheel for the army’s cleansing operation against terrorists in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) and the response of Pakistan army to save them from the floods.

The statement said the flood victims were very happy to find the army chief and top military commanders of the South Punjab in their midst.
