KARACHI: The business community is eagerly awaiting the completion of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) which would bring about an economic revolution in both countries, said Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Vice President Mohammad Waseem Vohra.

During a meeting with a 16-member Chinese delegation from Xinjiang province, he said that Pak-China friendship was time tested and now it had been moulded into a comprehensive and strategic partnership in trade, investment and economic development.

“The CPEC will be a milestone reflecting the strengthened trade and investment ties between the two countries,” said Vohra, adding that the huge Chinese investment in Pakistan, particularly in the energy sector and infrastructure, would bring about an economic revolution in the region.

“Pakistan is our second home and Chinese investors are keen to invest more in different sectors including agriculture and petrochemicals,” said Xinjiang Department of Commerce Director General and head of the delegation HE Yiming.

He further said that the CPEC was an important part of the China Silk Road which would open new avenues of enhancing trade and commercial activities. However, there was a need to develop a mechanism enhancing economic cooperation between both countries.

He also emphasised on frequent exchange of delegations between Pakistan and Xinjiang.

The meeting was attended by FPCCI Sindh Region In-charge and Vice President Muhammad Ikram Rajput, Pakistan China Business Council Chairman Mazhar Nasir and a large number of the members of FPCCI Pakistan China Business Council (PCBC).
