UN asked to help transfer MQM man to hospital

He said the fundamental human rights of the Mohajir community were being grossly violated by the paramilitary Rangers

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has appealed to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon through its international secretariat to help transfer one of its leaders Qamar Mansoor to a hospital. The appeal was made on humanitarian and compassionate grounds.

In the letter, lawyer Adil Ghaffar says he has written copious missives to the UN, informing it about the plight of MQM office bearers and supporters. He said the fundamental human rights of the Mohajir community were being ‘grossly’ violated by the paramilitary Rangers.

On the issue of Mansoor’s arrest on July 17 from Nine Zero, the letter says that he was also arrested during the army operation in 1990s against the MQM.

Back then, he was brutally tortured in custody, causing severe damage to his back which restricted his movement. “Due to torture while in custody, Mansoor’s back ailment has worsened.”

The staunchest supporters of the Two Nation Theory by virtue of voluntarily uprooting themselves from India and settleing in made for Muslims, Pakistan, as refuges, are now reduced to appealing to the United Nations for succor against the depredations of Punjab Province dominated Security Forces of Pakistan. The ancestors of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar Muslims must certainly be ruing that their forbears fell for the Two Nation Theory and delivered themselves into bondage under domination of Punjabi Muslims. I now fear that there is a likelihood of a pogrom targeting Mohajirs raising possibility of refuge flow into India. I call on my Government, the Government of India, to increase financial funding along with diplomatic and moral support for Mohajirs to guard against a flood of refugees from Pakistan as happened last time in 1971. Here let me also add that while I am concerned for Mohajirs, I have no wish to see them back in India. Their forebears made a foolish decision to leave India in 1947 and they will have to live with the consequences of that.

Baffled | 9 years ago | Reply @Bewildered Punjabis migrated from East Punjab to Pakistan never faced any discrimination in Punjab ,so they assimilated ,reason is obvious "Linguistic " The same was not for the Muhajirs who migrated to Sindh .Do you even know there is an urban rural quota in Sindh ? Go check 99% police stations of Karachi are run by non locals . And the going back thingy , we will carry back alongwith us what our ancestors created ,mind you .

John | 9 years ago | Reply I have said it bedore and i'll say it again,the only Mohajirs left in Pakistan are Altaf Hussain's apologists.Did you ever hear Musharraf call himself Mohajir?And if there is a bias against Mohajirs,how was the cammando made Chief of the Army Staff?

Bewildered | 9 years ago | Reply "He said the fundamental human rights of the Mohajir community were being ‘grossly’ violated" Either you become Pakistanis and renounce your "Mohajir" status, or go back where you came from like the Afghan refugees. I have spent better part of my life among Urdu and Punjabi speaking migrants living in Punjab and they never call themselves as Mohajirs (my own parents migrated from what is now India). Refugees from anywhere are no more welcome in Pakistan. We already have enough of them and have enough problems of our own.

OBSERVER | 9 years ago | Reply news published full news on Qamar Mansoor.....when Qamar Mansoor was present ATC he was unable to walk, rangers personal was holding him....seeing the condition Judge gave order to shift to hospital for tratmenttook but Ranger personal refused and took him away... which violation of UNO charter...
