Police encounter in Orangi Town leaves five suspected militants dead

Two alleged gangsters were killed during two separate encounters with the police in Lyari

KARACHI: At least five suspected militants were killed in an alleged encounter in Orangi Town, Karachi late on Wednesday night. Separately, two gangsters were killed during an encounter in Lyari.

The alleged encounter took place when police intercepted the suspected militants, who were transporting explosives and weapons in a car and on a motorcycle.

When police directed the suspects to stop, they allegedly attacked the officials. Fortunately, no official was hurt.

Police then mounted a chase and intercepted them again near a graveyard, where they exchanged fire. Five militants were killed in the exchange of fire, but some of the suspects escaped.

Upon searching the vehicles, police recovered explosives. They summoned the bomb disposal squad to defuse the bombs.

Bodies of the militants were shifted to the Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth for identification purposes, but not before medical and legal formalities had been completed at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Suspected Lyari gangsters killed

Two suspected gangsters were killed during two separate encounters with the police in Lyari.

In the first encounter, a gangster belonging to the Baba Ladla group was killed in Chakiwara area of Lyari.

In a separate encounter, a gangster of the same group was killed in Napier.

Police officials claimed that the suspected gangsters were involved in target killings, extortion and short term kidnapping for ransom.
