Jab he wed: A tale of Shahid and Mira’s vivah

Bollywood’s gliteratti expected to enliven couple’s grand reception on July 12

NEW DELHI: Shahid Kapoor and Delhi-based Mira Rajput tied the knot on Tuesday in a low-key ceremony at a farmhouse in Delhi’s outskirts after months of speculation. The wedding ceremony was attended by close relatives and friends, and a grand reception will be held in Mumbai on July 12, which Bollywood’s gliteratti are likely to grace with their presence.

The 34-year-old star, son of veteran actor Pankaj Kapur and his former wife Neelima Azim, tied the knot with 21-year-old Mira, who has pursued a Bachelor’s degree in English from Delhi University’s Lady Shri Ram College.



The guarded wedding was attended by around 40 to 50 guests, according to sources. The Haider star opted for a white kurta pajama and turban, while his bride donned a green and pink shalwar kurta with a dupatta on her head. She completed her look with a maang tika on her forehead and subtle make-up.

Shahid, who is said to be lodged at the Presidential Suite of The Oberoi in Gurgaon, arrived in the capital on Monday night for the sangeet ceremony, and his parents landed earlier to oversee the wedding preparations. The celebrations started on Monday evening with sangeet, where Shahid was seen shaking a leg with Mira on the hit wedding song Saj Dhaj Ke from his film Mausam.



After their wedding on Tuesday morning, the couple also attended a celebratory lunch with their. They changed their ensembles and, while Shahid opted for a pristine white sherwani designed by Kunal Rawal, Mira looked resplendent in a light pink and silver embroidered lehenga choli.

Shahid and Mira kept away from making a joint appearance for the media until Tuesday, when they appeared hand-in-hand to greet the paparazzi at Gurgaon’s Trident hotel in the afternoon. The media got to see a glimpse of the couple and Shahid blew a kiss at the photographers before he took his bride back inside. Later, Shahid even shared a selfie with his bride on Instagram, captioning it “#hitched.” A dinner was also hosted at The Oberoi hotel in Gurgaon on Tuesday night.

Shahid, who was previously in a relationship with actor Kareena Kapoor Khan and later linked to co-stars Vidya Balan, Priyanka Chopra and Anushka Sharma, had confirmed his intent to marry Mira at an event in March this year.

However, the actor kept the details of his wedding under wraps, saying it’s his “personal space.” “She [Mira] is a normal girl and I am a normal guy, and we should treat it like something normal and regular. It’s my personal space and I won’t get into the details,” he said.

On the professional front, Shahid will next be seen in Shaandaar opposite Alia Bhatt and in Udta Punjab. He will also be seen making his debut on the small screen as a judge on the celebrity dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Reloaded. This leaves no time for a honeymoon for Mr and Mrs Kapoor.
