QUETTA:

DIG Quetta Abdul Razzaq Cheema said Taliban militants were responsible for the killing of eight police personnel in Quetta last month.

He expressed these views while addressing a news conference at CCPO Office Quetta on Thursday. He said the militants after killing the police personnel chanted slogans of Taliban Zindabad and fled the scene.

“In the past law enforcement agencies have eliminated the Taliban terrorists from Quetta. However they are again active,” he said. “We are taking action against them,” DIG said.

He said police carried out a search operation in Mastung and recovered a grade six student Zahoor Ahmed in the raid. They arrested the two kidnappers as well.

“The kidnappers demanded 10 million rupees from the victim’s father Mohammad Aslam Bangulzai, a trader by profession, in ransom,” the DIG said.

The DIG told reporters that the militants are using rickshaws for their deadly attacks in Quetta. He demanded that the excise department cooperate with the police to stop illegal rickshaws plying on the roads and streets of the Quetta. He said around 8,000 illegal rickshaws are running in Quetta.
