Uplift: ‘Southern Punjab will get 36% of ADP’

LAHORE: The provinicial government has allocated 36 per cent of the annual development programme to southern Punjab, Provincial Minister for Social Welfare Syed Haroon Ahmed and Minister for Cooperatives Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channer said on Saturday. They said the percent of development funds allocated to southern Punjab was more than the region’s share of the population of the province. They said the education sector was a priority for the government and funds had been allocated to ensure availability of higher education facilities across the province. They said some of the higher education projects planned for the southern Punjab were Khawaja Farid University of Engineering and Information, Rahim Yar Khan; Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Agriculture, Multan; and University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bahawalpur. In the health sector, a Reccip Tayyab Erdogan Hospital would be established in Muzaffargarh and intensive care, cardiology and cardiac surgery units would be added to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital. They said upgrades were also planned for the district headquarters (DHQ) hospital, Dera Ghazi Khan. They said various irrigation schemes would be completed in southern Punjab in the coming year.
