KARACHI:

Malir police’s former senior superintendent Rao Anwar Ahmed reiterated his claim before the Sindh High Court (SHC) regarding the association of Rehan Tahir, said to be an activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, with the Indian spy agency, Research and Analysis War (Raw).

The police officer filed his comments in the high court, stating that Tahir had himself confessed during interrogation that he had links with the Indian spy agency, Raw. Anwar denied that the confessional statement was extracted by torture in custody.

He claimed that the accused had also confessed to being trained by the spy agency in India. He pleaded the court to dismiss the petition filed by the suspect’s wife, who had challenged his arrest.

Case history

Anwar, while he was posted as Malir SSP, had announced Tahir’s arrest on April 30, claiming he was associated with RAW. Days later, the suspect’s wife, Najma Tahir, took the Sindh home secretary, police IG, SSP Anwar and others to court over his alleged illegal detention and confessional statement under duress. The petitioner said the law enforcers had arrested him near Mukka Chowk on February 24.
