LAHORE:

The Water and Sanitation Agency is hoping to finish work on ongoing drainage projects in the city by June 30, WASA Managing Director Chaudhry Naseer Ahmed said on Sunday.

He was talking to the APP about the agency’s plan for the upcoming monsoon season. He said work was currently underway on widening and repair of drains in Sherakot, Lahore Cantonment and Gulshan Ravi areas. He said the provincial government had released Rs425 million to the WASA for the purpose. He said WASA teams were regularly visiting project sites to ensure that there were no unnecessary delays.

Ahmed said a restraining order issued by a court was preventing the agency from completing work in some areas. He said a legal team of the agency would soon approach the court and request it to set aside the order so that work could be completed ahead of the monsoon season.

He said 11 water disposal stations were currently operative to ensure that clean drinking water was available around the clock in the city. Alongside, he said the staff had been directed to keep water pumps and power generators in order throughout the summer season.
