The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday suspended Zimbabwe Captain Elton Chigumbura for two One Day Internationals (ODIs) owing to his side's slow over rate.

Zimbabwe was found three over short of its target at the end of Tuesday’s match against Pakistan, a statement issued by ICC said.

ICC remote match referee Roshan Mahanama, while handing Chigumbura two match suspension, also penalised each of Zimbabwe's players 40 per cent of their match fee.

The suspension came after the Zimbabwe captain pleaded guilty to charges levelled by on-field umpires Aleem Dar and Russell Tiffin, third umpire Ahmed Shahab and reserve umpire Shozab Raza.

On Tuesday, Pakistan beat Zimbabwe by 41 runs in the first ODI of the three-match series at Gaddafi stadium, Lahore. Chigumbura also scored his maiden century during the match.

Zimbabwe is the first team to tour Pakistan since the attack on the Sri Lankan team in Lahore in 2009.

whatever | 9 years ago | Reply @Cynic Waheed: question is that rule was existed before the Pak-Zim match or it was latter constructed to punish Zims. If its latter then it is ICC fault and its biased against Pak like whole world but if answer is former then it is you who is biased against ICC and India and FYI the Zim captain didn't contested against the ruling because he knows even in Pakistan he has to follow the rule. He is a law abiding player unlike pakistanis who want to bend the rule every time when it does not sit them. and don't be a cry baby just follow the rules they are meant for something

Amer | 9 years ago | Reply ICC is a joke and they prove it yet again. The India Controlled Council (ICC) didn't send any officials to Pakistan but had the audacity to impose this ridiculous punishment for visiting Pakistan.

Bewildered | 9 years ago | Reply I think the punishment is too sever considering the blistering heat of 45 degrees centigrade at the start of the play and team Zimbabwe was only 3 overs slow. In my opinion, 10% match fee penalty would have been more than enough. Perhaps they are being punished because they toured Pakistan against the wishes of ICC (Indian Cricket Council).
