KARACHI: Ever since the Islamabad-Lahore based boy band, Qayaas parted ways, each of its members has made a mark as solo artists. With Umair Jaswal set to make his acting debut in Yalghaar and Sarmad Ghafoor establishing himself as a premiere music producer, it was only a matter of time before Khurram Waqar also got into motion.

After serving as a lead guitarist for six years, he has advanced on to form his own band by the name of kW & The Facedown Movement.  The band recently released their first single called Facedown.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Waqar, who is no stranger to rock music due to his association with some of the renowned mainstream and underground rock bands of the country such as Entity, and Cocytus, revealed that the song has been mastered by Grammy Award-winning sound engineer Brian Gardener. Talking further about the future projects he said, “The future consists of releasing more English compositions (currently under production), leading an international tour and collaborations with some well-known musicians.”

“There is lot of other interesting stuff in store which includes an instrumental album and a reality series on guitar. Details will be revealed as they are finalised,” he added.

Following the latest release on the Pakistani music portal Taazi.com, Waqar also announced on his official Facebook page that Facedown will be featuring as the soundtrack for an upcoming Hollywood movie. As an artist, who funds all of his musical endeavours himself, he also encouraged the audience that they should purchase the music legally to help sustain the music industry.

Although Waqar announced the formation of kW & The Facedown Movement a few months ago, it was something that Umair Jaswal had anticipated a long time back. “Khurram [Waqar] was disheartened by the declining music scene in Pakistan and felt that he would be better served by catering to the international audiences, which is understandable,” remarked Jaswal.

The former Qayaas member also ruled out the possibility of a reunion stating that, “As far as I’m concerned Qayaas is done and dusted.” He explained that they were slated to perform a reunion concert in Kuch Khaas last December but that concert was eventually called off due to the Peshawar Attacks.
