DI KHAN:

One person was killed and two others were injured in firing after a cricket tournament Thursday night in Kari Kot, some 10 kilometres south-west of Wana Bazaar, South Waziristan Agency.

Locals were performing Attan to celebrate victory in the tournament when they got into an argument with alleged militants over dancing, a tribesman told The Express Tribune. “The militants wanted locals to stop dancing,” he said, adding later firing took place but it is not clear who fired the shots.

The political administration officials confirmed the incident. One of the officials said firing claimed the life of 17-year-old Umar Zada and injured Wasim, 15, and Asgher, 17, all of whom belong to Kari Kot.  However, the political administration official said the reason for the firing has yet to be ascertained as usually sports events and the celebrations afterwards are carried out without any issues.
