KARACHI: K-Electric will not be providing electricity to  Bahria Town but would in fact be sharing it and for this purpose a memorandum of understanding has already been signed between Bahria Town and K-Electric, announced the chief engineer of Bahria Town project, Riaz Naul. This announcement was made at a balloting ceremony of the Mercedes Benz distribution among members of Bahria Golf City Karachi and Bahria Golf City Overseas Block, on Tuesday.

Ten Mercedes Benz cars were distributed through a computerized balloting done by the children present at the event, on the request of Chief Executive Officer of Bahria Town, Ahmed Ali Riaz Malik. Owners of 1000 and 2000 square yards’ residential housing and 1000 square yards’ luxury villas’ participated in the balloting. However, another balloting for 500 square yards residential housing will take place later in which another 40 members will be provided Toyota Corollas through balloting.

According to Naul, the Bahria Town will have its own grid station for electricity. Speaking about the water distribution in the area, he said that with the help of Karachi Water Supply Board (KWSB), his team had already brought the water lines in the town. “There won’t be any water shortage,” he promised.

The Bahria Town Karachi project, according to him, was initiated on May 5, 2014. “In the span of one year you can see what we have developed,” he said to the crowd. “Within six months, we were done with the midway commercial.” He added that 80 percent of the Jinnah Avenue was also done and all the main avenues had also been blacktopped.

“The home structure of the town is also in the final process,” he revealed and added that by the end of this year families would start moving in there.

Speaking about the Bahria Grand Mosque, which according to him, will be able to accommodate as many as 0.8 million people. He said, “It will be the third largest mosque in the world”.  “Schools and hospitals are also more than 50 percent complete.” he added.

He informed the audience that the Golf City stretched across15,000 acre, had a 6 kilometer blacktopped road with street lights intact.

Near the end, Naul asked the audience if they knew how it was possible for the Bahria Town to be able to complete this mega project in the record time period. “It was because of the vision of the founder of Bahria Town, Malik Riaz,” he answered himself. He quoted Riaz as having said to him that they were their own competition.
