KARACHI: Three suspected gang members were killed during an alleged encounter with the police in Shah Faisal Colony.

The encounter reportedly took place when the police, engaged in routine snap-checks in the area, tried to intercept the suspects' car. Police officials claimed that the suspects resorted to indiscriminate firing at the law enforcers in an attempt to escape. In retaliation, the policemen fired back, killing three suspects.

The bodies were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsies, where one of them was later identified as Rehman alias Sudesh. The remaining two men have yet to be identified.

DSP Chandzaib Khan said that the suspects belonged to the Sohail Dada group of Lyari gangsters, which operates in Malir and its surrounding areas. The officer added that they were involved in various cases of murder, including an attack on a police van in alFalah and an attack on Malir Court judge Sikander Ameer.

The police also claimed to have seized hand grenades and weapons from the suspects' possession. Cases have been registered against them and further investigation is underway.
