QUETTA: Investment can change the fate of underdeveloped, but resource-rich Balochistan, said Chief Minister Abdul Malik Baloch.

“We have land but lack experts and skilled people, however investment can change the picture of current things,” he said speaking at National Investment Conference where Chinese and Korean investors were present along with entrepreneurs from across the country.

“We will support the investors and give them security to work,” he said allaying fears regarding kidnapping for ransom and targeted killings by separatist Baloch militants. Province needs investors who can take advantages of natural resources present in Balochistan, Malik said. Only massive investment could end illiteracy, poverty and unemployment in the province, he noted.

Commander Southern Command Lieutenant-General Nasser Khan Janjua, speaking on the occasion, said that Balochistan has a vital role in development of Pakistan and the future of the country depends on it. “We are thankful to the investors who are willing to take steps for the development of Balochistan.” Kaiser Bengali, adviser to the CM on economic issues, said that over 20 investors participated in the conference. He expressed hope that the conference will help build confidence of investors for venturing into Balochistan projects.

Home Minister Sarfaraz Bugti said that the provincial government and the law enforcement agencies will provide security to investors. “Law and order situation is improving day by day due to sacrifices of FC, Levies and police,” he said.

Economic experts from different organisations presented their papers and apprised the investors about the business potential in Balochistan. The province offers investment opportunities in fisheries, mining and infrastructure development.
